Frequently Asked Questions
(Idly & Dosa Batter)
General Questions
What ingredients are used in your idly and dosa batter?
Our classic batter is made using rice, urad dal (black gram split & skinned), fenugreek seeds, purified water, and a pinch of salt. No preservatives or artificial additives are used.
Is your batter ready to use or do I need to ferment it?
Our batter is naturally fermented and ready-to-use. For best results, allow it to come to room temperature and stir well before use.
How long does the batter stay fresh?
The batter stays fresh for upto 10 days from manufacturing day when refrigerated at 2–8°C. Always use a clean, dry spoon and keep the batter covered to maximize shelf life.
Can I freeze the batter?
We do not recommend this approach. But Yes, you can freeze the batter for up to 1 month. Thaw it in the refrigerator overnight, and gently stir before use. Note that extreme freezing may affect texture slightly.
Cooking & Preparation
Do I need to add anything to the batter before making idly or dosa?
The batter is ready as it is! For dosa, you may add a little water to adjust the consistency for spreading. For idly, some prefer to add a pinch of salt or cooking soda just before steaming.
Why aren’t my idlis or dosas fluffy/crispy?
Ensure the batter is at room temperature before preparation. Over-mixing, expired batter, or not enough fermentation may affect texture. Resting the batter outside for 1–2 hours can help if it’s just out from the fridge.
Millet-based Idly & Dosa Batter
What types of millets are used in your millet batter?
We use a nutritious blend, which may include foxtail millet, Finger millet or Sorghum millet along with urad dal and fenugreek seeds. Check the product label for exact composition.
Is millet batter gluten-free?
Yes, all our millet-based batters are naturally gluten-free, making them a great choice for those with gluten sensitivities.
Does millet-based batter need a different fermentation process?
Our millet batter is pre-fermented—use it just like regular batter. Fermentation is carefully controlled for optimal taste and digestibility.
Are millet dosas and idlis healthy compared to traditional ones?
Millet batters are rich in fiber, minerals, and protein, and have a low glycemic index. They are considered a healthy alternative to rice-based counterparts, especially for those seeking variety or better blood sugar control.
